It’s a tea party…

Happy Friday! Boy, I love hearing those words. :) I’m totally ready for the weekend – it is totally my time to get inky and relax. There is a new challenge over at The Octopode Factory Friday Challenge blog and the theme is….Mad Hatter’s Tea Party.

I love any reason I have to use my “Tea Party” embossing folder, so I was stoked. I wanted to play a bit with my new Distress Stains as well, so it was win-win. The images used in this page are Dormouse and the teapot and cups are from the Alice elements.

Now…as anyone who knows me, they know that I love to sleep. So for this challenge, I just had to use the Dormouse and his/her(?) fabulous quote. “You might just as well say,” says the Dormouse…”that, ‘I breathe when I sleep’, is the same thing as ‘I sleep when I breathe’!”

The background was made using Broken China and Grass Distress Stains. I colored the A5 sheet of watercolor paper color first with water, then spread the Stains over, making sure to use a dry brush to smooth out the edges. After the page was dry, I dry embossed it using my Tea Party embossing folder. From this point, I went back and forth between adding a bit Distress Inks, Picket Fence stain and a plum acrylic. in the end the Picket Fence totally whitewashed everything out, so I left it at that. I need to practice more of this white washing. I love the Picket Fence stain, in fact I can see it as being the only stain I actually use. I  still prefer my Inks over anything else – more control on color and mess. Smile After the background got to a point that I could stand it, I stamped my circle Dylusions stamp in Archival Manganese Blue in random places. I added the Dylusions border to the top and bottom, then filled them in with my Mowtow acrylic white pen.

The images were colored with my copics in bright, jewel tone colors. I then went over the teapot and cups with Rock Candy Crackle Paint – I LOVE this stuff! I then cut out the teapot (two different copies of the image) and 3D paper pieced it. I also opted, to have Dormouse sleeping “in” the pot instead of in front, so the pot lid had to come off. Open-mouthed smile

I love the overall look, and the saying is just me. I know there are a lot of Alice in Wonderland fans out there, so hop over to The Octopode Factory Friday Challenge and play along. TOFF does not require an Octopode Factory image, however if you do use one (and let me tell ya, Lily has LOTS of Alice images) you will be entered in twice for the challenge prize of 3 Octopode images.
