D&D 5e (2024 PHB)
D&D Half-elf Sorcerer Chaotic Good
Backstory
Origins: Shaenyra Veldris was born beneath a rare celestial convergence. Her cries echoed with untamed arcane energy that shattered the windows of the midwife's chamber. Raised in a city of scholars, she was taken in by the sages of the Grand Library, who hoped to study and perhaps contain her natural magic.
Formative Events: Shae's magic never followed formulas — ink levitating off the page, walls humming with wild energy when she was upset, teleporting across the library by accident when startled. Her powers seemed tied to emotion, intuition, and something deeper than reason. Reading a buried tome about Wild Magic surges and chaos-formed bloodlines, she felt a jolt of energy leap from the book into her veins. That night she dreamed of a burning tapestry unraveling at the edges, and her hand weaving it back together with thread made of lightning and storm.
The Road to Now: Now Shae travels in search of magical disturbances, anomalies, and wild zones, hoping to understand the chaotic source within her and, if she dares, learn to control it without losing herself in the storm. The Grand Library may fear her, but she still owes them everything she knows. She keeps a journal of every anomaly she encounters.
Secret: She doesn't fully know what she is. The magic that runs through her is not simply Wild Magic in the academic sense — something happened at her birth that the Grand Library has never fully explained, and she suspects they know more than they have shared.
World: A D&D world of arcane scholarship, ancient magic, and unexplained phenomena. The Weave holds reality together, but there are fractures in it where raw chaotic power bleeds through. The Grand Library is one of the great centers of arcane knowledge — respected, and quietly feared. Shae exists on the margins of respectable arcane society: claimed by the Library as a ward and subject of study, but never fully belonging there.
Notable connection: The Grand Library — her former home, and a complicated one. They raised her and studied her; she owes them everything she knows, and still doesn't fully trust them.

Personality
Core Traits: Brilliantly intelligent but poor at communicating it to others; chaotic and emotionally reactive, with magic that answers to feeling before reason; deeply curious, especially about wild magic and arcane anomalies; bonds strongly but tends to isolate herself in thought; fascinating and unnerving in equal measure.
Virtues: Shae's passion for understanding the world around her is infectious. When she does manage to articulate what she knows, she is brilliant. She is fiercely loyal to those she trusts, and her desire to understand her own chaos comes from a genuine wish to protect the people around her from it.
Flaws & Vices: She struggles to explain her thoughts clearly — what feels instinctive to her often baffles others, and she has little patience for that gap. She gets lost in her own head at the worst times. She fears her magic deeply, and that fear sometimes makes it harder to control.
Fears: That her magic will eventually overwhelm her. That she will hurt someone she cares about before she understands herself well enough to stop it.
Desires & Motivations: To understand the chaotic source within her, not just to control it, but to know what it is. She believes magic should be as unpredictable as thought itself — but also that without self-mastery, freedom becomes destruction.
Ideals: Freedom — magic should be as free and unpredictable as thought itself. Self-Mastery — if she doesn't control this power, it will control her.
Mannerisms & Quirks: Absentmindedly traces invisible runes in the air or on surfaces, leaving a faint shimmer that fades quickly. After an uncontrolled magical surge, she murmurs a quiet apology to no one in particular. Often caught staring into the middle distance. Small magical effects follow her emotions: floating lights when happy, ink changing color when nervous, a sudden breeze when startled.
Appearance: 5'7", slender and almost willowy, with an ethereal grace. Long, tousled waves of deep violet-black hair, streaked with silver, indigo, or fiery red during surges of emotion or magic. Iridescent eyes swirling with lavender, turquoise, and gold, glowing faintly when channeling magic. Pale, faintly shimmering skin. A shifting, tattoo-like mark on her forearm that pulses when Wild Magic is nearby. Layered robes in faded jewel tones with arcane embroidery, a wide sash of books and scroll tubes, and scorched leather gloves worn from years of surges. The air around her always feels faintly charged, like the moment before a thunderstorm.
"The wind doesn't ask permission, and neither do I."
"Let them chase rules; I'll chase horizons."
"You were born of storm and flame. Never hold back when the world trembles at your rise."
